One year later

Here we are, one year later! I have several friends who use their blogs as a journal for their families, and I really hope that I can get in the habit of blogging more regularly, because I love that idea. We have had an amazing summer so far! Peter was offered a job at McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden before he even graduated nursing school. We told our landlord that we wouldn't be renewing our lease, which was kind of scary-- if Peter didn't pass the NCLEX, then he wouldn't be able to work at the hospital, and we would have had no reason to move, and no house to live in! I had total faith in him, though! So we packed all of our stuff into a trailer and moved in with my parents for a few weeks so that Peter could just focus on studying. He passed on the first try (no surprises. He passed with the minimum amount of question, too, which means that he did well)! So in June we moved to Roy, UT, which is just next to Ogden, but not quite as big. Our apartment is on the 3rd floor, which isn't my favorite, but it's nice and big. In July we went to Coeur d'Alene for the 4th, and it was wonderful! We camped at Sam Owen campground on lake Pend Orielle, saw a lot of family, watched the 4th of July parade and fireworks, explored Wallace, and biked the Hiawatha trail! Henry was a dream camper and traveler, he loved being outside, swimming in the lake, poking the fire with a stick ( thanks, Papa!), hiking, and trying to love on all the dogs that were in our camp. The rest of the summer has been filled with trips to the aquarium, splash pad, Bear Lake, jumping on Grammy and Papa's trampoline, and just all around having fun.

We are getting ready to go camping in Rexburg this weekend at Phil's cousin's house to watch the solar eclipse, then camping in Bear Lake a few days later! Trying to squeeze in every bit of summer that we can before fall comes!

A bit of an update on our lives:
Peter is working in the ICU at McKay Dee and really enjoys it. At the end of this month, he'll start working on his bachelor's through Weber's online program. He's offered to try and transfer to a hospital in Logan (knowing how much I miss being close to my family), but I declined because I know that he wouldn't get the experience there that he can here. Heavenly Father really knows where to guide us, even if His plans aren't the ones we would choose for ourselves. And we're already starting to look at grad schools! Applications will start in this next year, and programs would start anywhere between a year to two from now (If he gets accepted on the first round).

I am still staying home with Henry! I just got called into the Young Women's program at church (working with girls aged 12-17). I'm the secretary, as well as the personal progress leader! I haven't been able to get aquatinted with the girls as well as I'd like, since we had so much already planned for this summer, but I'm excited to be able to really buckle down into this calling once things settle down a little! I've also been doing several custom watercolor portraits and trying to improve my handlettering--I really hope to be able to turn this hobby and love of creativity into a business!

Henry is so great. I just don't know how we got so lucky! He is cute as can be; runs everywhere; is starting to say a lot of words (but none of them are very clear. I know what he's saying, usually, but it's hard for other people to understand him. Hopefully that clears up soon!); loves dogs, babies, and water; eats pretty much everything; is a great sleeper; and makes us laugh all the time! As wonderful as he is, he is still a baby and definitely has his moments! I always said that if our kids are like me, I wouldn't have to worry--I was a pretty emotional kid, but didn't sneak out or anything. But when I said that, I always pictured it in a teenage girl--not a 1 year old boy! Henry is SO emotional and tenderhearted! Sometimes it's hard when he just throws himself down and screams at every little thing that frustrates him, but he is also unfailingly patient with my shortcomings as a mom, and I wouldn't change a single thing about him.

I think that's a good update on us for now, hopefully I'm checking back in before another year has passed.
